BOTTLE SHOCK ON COLFAX

New Icon Heralds The Revitalization of Capitol Hill, Delights Downtown Commuters and
Piques The Interest of Denver Wine Enthusiasts

November 11, 2008 (DENVER). It wasn’t so long ago that Playboy magazine labeled Colfax "the longest, wickedest street in America,” but one of the street’s most established and respected businesses knows that this infamous artery is as important to downtown Denver’s future as its past.
Family owned Argonaut Wine & Liquor could have erected its classic new 40,000 sq. ft. architectural beauty anywhere in Denver, but chose to stay on the same block of East Colfax where Lazer Robinson with sons Hank and Jack Robinson started the business in 1965. “Argonaut is a Colfax institution, and who is more qualified to kick-start the revitalization of this particular stretch of Colfax than a 40-year community establishment?” states Ron Vaughn co-owner, and son-in-law of founder Hank Robinson.

People are passionate about Colfax Avenue
By superadmin @ 1:08 AM :: 103 Views
Taj Moore has only lived in Denver for a year, but he's already fallen in love.
"I fell in love with Colfax immediately," said Moore.

Even though the object of his affection is a street, it has a complexity of character that rivals any human's.

"There's so many dimensions to what makes the Colfax experience," he said.

Spend any evening on Colfax Avenue and it's easy to see those dimensions in action. From rowdy concert-goers to sophisticated art connoisseurs, Colfax attracts them all.

It's that diversity that Moore finds alluring.

"Colfax is a great mixing place - you have such a diversity of people. You find a lot of the romanticism of what people think America is and was right here on Colfax. You have the high culture and the low culture and everything in between," he said.

Moore wishes others would see Colfax the way he does.

"Not enough people know what this is about, not enough people appreciate it," he said.

Go watch the incredible video about Colfax here.

CITY PARK UPDATE: “GAME ON!!”
Tuesday, July 08, 2008

By superadmin :: 91 Views
    If you’ve walked through City Park lately (or almost
anytime in the past decade) you’re probably disappoint-
ed, discouraged, frustrated, or even outraged at the con-
ditions you encounter. Dying grass, weed infestations,
non-functioning lights, dirty tennis courts, weeds in
the horseshoe pits, goose dung, mud and debris on the
pavement, and water features that either don’t work or
are rarely operating are symptoms of a very sick piece
of public property--property that has been entrusted to
city employees to manage for the enjoyment and benefit
of the citizens. Have I mentioned Ferril Lake? Are you
enjoying your park, citizens?

CITY PARK UPDATE - Ferril Lake
Thursday, June 05, 2008

By don :: 117 Views
Ferril Lake
Unfortunately Ferril Lake has been overcome with an extensive outbreak of algae growth.  High nutrient levels in the lake water combined with warming temperatures probably caused the algal bloom. Park staff, in coordination with Denver Environmental Health Department, has developed a treatment plan to address the problem.  Teri Henry, City Park Operations Supervisor, is certified to apply the recommended chemical treatments and started the treatments last week.  The procedure has limitations since it takes several days to apply the solution over the 24 acre lake. Multiple applications may be necessary to control the extensive growth. The procedure also requires time between treatments to avoid adversely impacting wildlife and other desirable organisms.  Park staff is looking into options to rake the algae off the lake surface and dispose it if the chemical treatments don’t prove effective.  While we are hopeful there will be improvement by the weekend, there is not a predictable timeframe for when the algae can be significantly cleared from the lake...

DENVER – May 20, 2008.  Over 40 small Colfax businesses are joining together to celebrate “Marathon Month,” starting May 17 at the Colorado Colfax Marathon. Neighborhood block parties and events encourage residents to visit Colfax and support those small businesses that are changing the face of Colfax Avenue for the better -- from Colorado Boulevard to Broadway, including the Bluebird District between York and Colorado Blvd.

The Colfax Marathon Goes Off-Course
Thursday, May 08, 2008

By Patricia Calhoun, Westword :: 0 Views

Why is this race skipping the best stretch of this street?

"... Morreale is one reason why that part looks so good, says Don Novak, the creator of MyColfax.org and a major promoter of the street. Two years ago, when he shared his vision for Colfax, "Jesse was throwing me out of his office," Novak remembers. But they both persevered, and when Novak heard that the route was changing again, he made lemonade out of lemons. Specifically, he organized Marathon Month, which will run from May 17 to June 8 and include a Colfax Scavenger Hunt on May 24 (kids from 1 to 4 p.m., adults from 8 p.m. to midnight) and the Colfax Stomp on May 31, a many-block party that will stretch from Vine to Marion streets. He's also created the Colfax Passport, which you can punch at Colfax businesses while you're enjoying the festivities, then take to the People's Fair for a free T-shirt..."

Hello and thank you for visiting the MyColfax.org site.  We are the sum of many businesses on our common ground, Colfax Avenue.  We have built this site to help bring you the neighbor to our businesses on Colfax.   To entice you to do so we have an excellent line up of events and block parties from now until the People's Fair.  Please check the events for details.  Also, we have the My Colfax Card.  The card is free and you can receive it by simply signing up on this site.  We have great plans for this site and Colfax.  Many people have been working on the Colfax Community for a long time.  There are a great number of stories to be told and good times to be had.  We would like to both collect and share these stories and the best way to do this is via the web.   So, we will continue to add the social extensions that will help us all come together in any and all ways possible.

We look forward to seeing you everywhere on Colfax.  Thank you for using your My Colfax Card.  It is brought to you in gratitude by your favorite businesses on, yes Colfax Avenue.
